Job Title: Manufacturing Improvement Manager – Performance & Improvement, Submarines

Working Pattern: Full time

Working location : Derby (Raynesway)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Manufacturing Function for a Manufacturing Improvements Manager to join our team on the Raynesway site, Derby.

The purpose of this role is to drive improvement, governance, and support to our Manufacturing Facilities and DBU’s (Delivery Business Units), for them to meet their operational goals and increase their operational performance. You will be part of the team who sets and delivers the manufacturing strategy across Rolls-Royce Submarines and will introduce and embed the use of digital metrics, in line with the Rolls-Royce Production System.

What you will be doing:

With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to be involved with the following:

  • Develop and implement the Manufacturing Strategy and lead activities which drive improved performance across our manufacturing facilities

  • Ensure consistent performance governance through agreed standard SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People) KPI’s, governed through the RRPS system

  • Support the manufacturing DBU’s in rate improvement activities as and when required, in line with key business objectives

  • Create better data and systems driven decision making through improved use of IT systems, data, and solutions.  Promote the use of data, through our executive systems and ensure teams are empowered to measure improvement and make decisions using data, available at source

  • Lead and develop the skills and capability for Production leaders, Working Team Leaders, Cell Champions, DAP’s and production operatives within our manufacturing community

  • Establish a cross-business Manufacturing Functional Community featuring CoP’s, key role pipeline, capability progression etc. Establish a regular drumbeat communication within that community

  • Own and implement the key manufacturing processes in RRMS and ensure capability councils are in place and are performing

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Successful track record of delivering positive change/improvement projects in a previous role.

  • Experience of working in either manufacturing and/or engineering department and has product or process knowledge that can be exploited to drive improvement and inform business best practice.

  • Strong problem solving and change management skills with demonstrated success in driving and embedding successful change/improvement.

  • Basic knowledge of Business Process Improvement Techniques / lean, as training can be given.

  • Has strong people and networking skills that can be used to help drive and embed change alongside an ability to coach and influence people across business units. Experience in leading cross functional teams.

  • A working knowledge of the principles of the Rolls-Royce Production System is essential, with the ability to coach others on the practical application of these tools

  • Lean or six sigma qualifications

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
